Acting Class

Duckegg Theatre’s Acting classes provide a well-rounded training for students who would like to pursue acting as a career or a hobby. It is so much more than a drama club!  Working with postgraduate level, drama school experienced coaches, the senior drama classes also provide a springboard into undergraduate level courses and auditions.

Available for 3-24 year olds.

Classes in:

Barton-Upon-Humber, The Ropewalk
Scunthorpe, Queensway Business Centre
Brigg, The Angel Suite
Grimsby, Franklin College Theatre
Selby, Theatre and Dance Academy

What Will I Study?

You will learn acting theory covering a wide range of theorists and practitioners and put this into practice in your two performances per year.  Current modules include Street Theatre, Studio Practice (where you have the opportunity to direct your own piece), Theorist Study and National Theatre Connections.  Our work with the National Theatre Connections Programme and West Yorkshire Playhouse has led to our students working on projects by some fantastic directors and writers, most recently Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater (Spring Awakening) and Samuel Adamson.

Examinations

Examinations are not a mandatory part of being involved in the Acting Classes, however many students like to structure their work towards them.  We offer two exam periods per year where students can work towards London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) graded examinations in Acting (Entry level to Grade 8, with the potential to move onto teaching qualifications) or the Arts Award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level which provides a coursework-led option.  When you sign up for examinations you are eligible FREE one-to-one preparation lessons.

Meet Sam Kennedy, 18, Musical Theatre Seniors, Acting Seniors

“I went to a few youth theatres before Duckegg and none of them give a friendly atmosphere and a sense of dedication and professionalism as Duckegg does.  I have not been one for singing and dancing, especially staying in time but with the help from all the tutors and the students there, I am picking it up and trust me, it’s no mean feat! They also have given me a taste of what it is like in a professional touring show, performing at the Edinburgh Festival, for National Theatre Connections at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and performing street theatre and musicals.  They have even given me the opportunity to devise and direct my own show and plenty of other great opportunities.”

Students can take optional voice examinations.  We offer two exam periods per year where students can work towards London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) graded examinations in Musical Theatre (Entry level to Grade 8, with the potential to move onto teaching qualifications with the London College of Music) or the Arts Award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level which provides a coursework-led option.  When you sign up for examinations you are eligible FREE one-to-one preparation lessons.
