Aid Memoir – **Youth Role Casting** – Chelle

Duckegg Production Casting – Theatre – (self tape required)

‘AID MEMOIR’ by Glenda Cooper

Duckegg Theatre Company
Barton Upon Humber DN18 5JT (rehearsals)
Expenses paid at Equity rate
Dates : rehearsals 17-28th September, performances (the Pleasance, London) 1-6th Oct

Role available: Chelle – A 17 year old refugee from Castleford. At this stage we aim to cast two young people in this role to rotate through the London run. Should the show tour, more ‘Chelles’ will be required. This is a gender neutral casting.

Overview: Does charity begin at home? Martine, an aid worker from Kenya is running refugee camp in the UK. She is desperate to help Chelle, a 17 year old refugee. Potential salvation appears in the form of Taz, a showbiz journalist who has come from Kenya to launch an appeal – but Taz and Martine have a history.

This play looks at the patronising attitudes taken to those who have found themselves in humanitarian crisis. Are some disasters more worthy than others?

Parents/Guardians of auditionees – terms of casting: Please note that these shows are professional productions and the young people will be expected to behave as such. They must be available for all rehearsal dates and prioritise this project. Duckegg membership must be upheld. Each young person will be expected to perform approx 2-3 days at this stage, and attend all rehearsals. There will be occasions where school time will need to be missed and in such cases we will need your support in releasing them from school/college. Each young person will need a performance license if under 16; again we will need your support with providing the correct documentation and working with the local council.

Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent for their run in London (one week). No accommodation will be provided but we can help you find accommodation to suit all budgets.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a professional show in a key London venue with some amazing actors. Before applying please consider whether you have the stamina to be in a professional theatre environment. There is a lot of travelling, a lot of pressure, expectation and obviously missing some school will be unavoidable.

To register your interest and for self tape sides PARENTS/Young people with PROOF of parent consent (if under 16) email haley@duckegg.org.uk with a headshot and details of previous experience/a CV and confirm that you understand the terms of the casting.
